Subscribe to Australian Guitar for your chance to WIN 1 of 3 year long supplies of premium strings!

Long before every wide-eyed guitarist yearned to get their fingers plucking whatever strings would come for free in their endorsement package, it was up to them to find a string that suited their unique sound and style. Jimi Hendrix swore by his trusty set of Black Diamond wires, twiddling with them day and night and, in the process, coming up with some of the most iconic licks in the guitar’s history.

Now, Black Diamond have teamed up with the Jimi Hendrix Foundation’s “Music For Life” program to debut a new line of bespoke strings. Available in three distinct configurations, the line aims to deliver the classic tonality and inimitable quality that Hendrix himself swooned over all those decades ago, all the while contributing to a great cause. Each set is named after one of Hendrix’s most iconic performances: the Monterey Pop Festival (silver plated, for acoustics), Royal Albert Hall (phosphor bronze, for acoustics) and – because it’d be sacrilegious if they didn’t include it – Woodstock (nickel wound, for electrics). All three sets are available in extra light, light, and medium gauges. “The Jimi Hendrix Foundation is dedicated to the betterment of the world community through music,” the longstanding nonprofit says. In honour of the love and giving spirit of Jimi Hendrix, the Foundation works to improve the quality of life for children and the world and to inspire creativity in music, arts and sciences.

“The partnership with Black Diamond Strings will allow the Jimi Hendrix Foundation to showcase their Music For Life program. Music For Life was established to provide children and young adults with musical instruments and instruction without the worry of cost.”
