There is the Great Race, the Bathurst 1000, and then there is the Bathurst 12 Hour. Two very big events, each unique in their own way. While the 1000 is very much a ‘local’ event contested by Australia’s Gen3 Supercars touring car stars, the Bathurst 12 Hour is a truly international affair.
Not only that, but the 12-hour now legitimately rivals iconic international sports car enduros such as the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps and the Nurburgring 24 Hours, in both status and importance. As a measure of the Bathurst 12 Hour’s importance on the world stage, it is the opening race in the five-round Intercontinental GT Challenge – the virtual world championship GT3 sportscar racing, which also includes the prestigious Spa and Nurburgring 24 Hours.
Each year we get to see Australia’s best drivers up against some of the world’s top sportscar racing specialists – and it kicks off with a spectacular pre-dawn, headlights-blazing start.
But the really exciting thing about this year’s Meguiar’s Bathurst 12 Hour is the cars – some of the world’s most exotic supercars from the ranks of FIA international GT3 sportscar racing. This is a race for some of the world’s most prestigious brands: the illustrious likes of Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus, McLaren, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Chevrolet, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, BMW and more.
12-HOUR magazine is compiled by some of Australia’s best known motor racing journalists and includes the kind of behind-the-scenes analysis for which Chevron Publishing is widely renowned. This special annual previews the stars and cars who will battle for 2026 race honours, in what’s shaping as the start of a whole new era for Mount Panorama’s ‘race around the clock’.
